Idea Fest 2018: Application Stats

Kerala Startup Mission is set to organise the Idea Fest during the first week of April 2018. The 10th Idea Day organised by KSUM is aimed at promoting the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among the youth of the state. This event will focus exclusively on innovative projects by students in Kerala.

The Stage 1 Application form is an interest form that opened on 25 January 2018. The form will be open until March 4, 2018, and students interested in Idea Fest may still apply. Link to Stage 1 Application Form:

As on 18 February, the interest form has been completed by 1017 students from various colleges of the state. As on date, Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kanjirappally, SCT College of Engineering, Trivandrum and GEC Barton Hill, Trivandrum are leading the table in terms of application count.

Kerala Startup Mission presents Idea Fest 2018

Kerala Startup Mission is set to organise the Idea Fest during the first week of April 2018. The 10th Idea Day organised by KSUM is aimed at promoting the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among the youth of the state. This event will focus exclusively on innovative projects by students in Kerala.

Application Overview

All students who are interested in participating in the Idea Fest are first expected to submit their Stage 1 Application form, which is only an interest form. All students should also complete and submit their Stage 2 application form to be considered for selection to Idea Fest.

Stage 1 Application: Interest form

The Stage 1 Application form is open and will continue to remain open for students to make their interest submissions. All students who have submitted the Stage 1 application form will be provided guidance by KSUM to complete their Stage 2 application form through its partners ICT Academy and Rethink Foundation.

The Stage 2 application form is open and only the students who complete the Stage 2 application will be considered for final selection to Idea Fest. The deadline for submission of Stage 2 application is March 4th, 2018.

The applications will be vetted by IEDC nodal officers from each college. KSUM will be organising zonal events where the applicants will be able to present the idea to a panel. This panel will both shortlist the ideas with potential and provide the applicants necessary feedback for improving their idea and presentation. This step is expected to be completed in the month of March.

Idea Fest

Demo and final selection of all the shortlisted ideas will be on April 7th. The ideas which are recommended by the evaluation panel and approved by KSUM will receive funding through the Innovation Grant scheme. Read more about the scheme here:

Guidance from Rethink

All students who have submitted the interest form (Application Stage 1) will be receiving guidance from Rethink over emails. For guidance, you can also refer to the Idea Grant Wiki page of Rethink ( for more details and mail in to

Rethink Foundation is helping with the outreach for the program. Rethink is also acting as a help-desk to help students fill the application form. Shortlisting and selection will be done by experts handpicked by KSUM

    We will clone a popular augmented reality app Modi Keynote and analyze the app development lifecycle of an AR app in unity

Prerequisites – Software 
1. Unity 2017.3.1  – Latest stable release of Unity with the following component installed ( Must) -Link:
    – Standard Assets
    – Android Build Support
    – Vuforia Augmented Reality Support
2. Android SDK: (download the from the link and keep it extracted)
4. Visual Studio /  MonoDevelop : Scripting IDE
Prerequisites – Hardware
1. Laptop with mouse
2. Android Phone with USB cable – Please enable USB debugging on the android phone ( Please google and find out how to enable USB debugging  for your particular model)
3. USB Webcam if possible – You can also use laptop webcam but a USB webcam is preferred as it will be a lot easier for us to test out AR demos
Profile of the speaker
Albin has over 5 years of experience in Computer graphics, Game development and Augmented reality / Virtual Reality starting his career in Dell International Services.He has been part of developing various AR/VR applications targetting entertainment as well as enterprises. He graduated from NMIT, Bangalore in Computer Science and Engineering. He is an official Certified Unity Developer. Albin is also passionate about teaching AR/VR development across colleges and connecting with tech-community

As the required software are bit heavy in size and required high bandwidth to install, it may not be possible for them to install them on the premise during the workshop. Please follow this instruction for the interest of not wasting time on trivial things.
